Here below some more pictures of our EMO scratch build. Takes awhile but we are trying to get the best out of it.

For the fun, the plug for the keel was made of a stack of paper sheets epoxied and sanded. Works nice and precise ! The keel is made of three layers of carbon 200 g/m2 with the inside filled with carbon rods. Very stiff.

Frank, do you have some other news to share about EMO?

Here are some new photos of my EMO build.

After glassing the wooden hull inside and out, I was concerned that it may absorb water over time and gain weight, so I decided to use it as a male mold and make a glass copy.

To make the after deck, first I widened the flat floor to 80 mm to give enough width for a radio pot. Also a photo of the foredeck.

The glass hull is 2 layers of 6oz and one layer of 2 oz cloth. It is quit stiff and has no pin holes. (It is much easier to avoid pin holes on a male mold). The original wood/glass hull weighs 500 gram. The glass hull weighs 180 grams.

Almost done with the EMO. The deck has been attached to the hull. For the winch, I decided to go with the Hitec HS7954 (cheap, very lightweight but still powerful) equipped with the Sailsetc special drum. For optimum results, the boat was finished with car paint. Emo looks well balanced on the water. I did check the center of gravity and the center of boyancy (Delfship software). Both are superimposed and are falling as described on Frank's drawings (LCB). Just need to sand and paint the fins and make a bumper and Emo will hit the water! The whole story is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/44941818@N06/

Our EMO finally did hit the water ! Works great. Wasn't too windy but still the boat was fast, especially upwind. Stick to Frank's plan and you'll get great results ! The sails need some more fine tuning and we will get ready for a regatta.
