The running of the late Doug Billings memorial trophy will be held on the weekend of the 28th/29th August at the home waters of the Forster Tuncurry Radio Yacht Club.

This event is open to 10r Marbleheads and A Class yachts and in my opinion would be one of the best tracks in NSW to sail on lunch will be provided so keep your eye open on the NSW site for the NOR and entry form.

Hey Phil,

Great concept for a great event, what would be the format, separate classes, or all in.

And, where's the nearest caravan park.

Gary, our club is to run the event all to gether with scratch event on Saturday and handicap on sunday with the handicaps worked  from the saturday's results with a little fine tuning by the OOD. there is also talk of a race over the entire length of the pond, some 400m. We wont to make this a fun weekend with some serious racing we have seen how the M's perform with the Tens and would like to see the A's in action as Doug was very involved in all these classes . Has any one out there any of Doug's boats still sailing? We should have his last A and 10r on display and may be a few of his personal boats he had stored away. Tuncurry beach caravan park 65546440 and there are some motels in Tuncurry close to the sailing. Our Sec is without a computer at present so I have answered this. Donc
Any quiries please use this forum as others will see the response and hope fully come join the fun and meet Doug's family. Donc

Thanks for your input Steve it only goes to show we are all human, seeing you know so much about Doug you might come and support this regatta being sailed in his memory.

I,m trying to get Reg Wood to sail his A on the day it was Dougs last A design but I think he will sail his 10r also a Billing design. Steve how about you sailing a vintage M surely you have one of Dougs M's in your fleet. Donc

Well , I have a few Billing boats. All planked. But the problem is that on all previous occasions that I have sailed them I have had people run into them. Of course this does untold damage to them big time. So much so that I make the promise to myself not to do it again. As you know fixing one of these finely crafted Planked Ms is almost impossible . But I will think about it?

Hi guys, I have managed to get another laptop so we're back on the air.
Have received some entries to the Doug Billing Trophy weekend and starting to compile a skippers list.
It is going to be a great weekend so come one come all. At this stage we have about 12 skippers coming.
If anyone would like to come and doesn't have a boat please give me a call (02 6551 2263) and I'm sure we can arrange one. (probably a 10R)
Presently we're planning to run seperate classes when racing but it all depends on how many we get for each class. Also on the drawing board is a suggestion to run scratch then handycap consecetively. As we get closer to the day the nuts & bolts of running the event will be finalised.
Lunch will be provided (probably a bar-b-que & salad & Bread rolls) plus  tea & coffee, biscuits & soft drinks.
Trophys will be presented on sunday arvo by the Billing family after sailing.
Please remember to enter so we can cater for lunch on both days.........regards to all spaceman

Greetings Funkster,
I have had questions asked what will be the format be one in all in I would suggest not I think the A's need to be raced together the M's and tens are ok together.

What ever I think it will be a great weekend.

Cheers .........Phil

hey Philby, it looks like that will be the format at this stage. It would be great to get a few more A's as this was Doug's boat of choice. The pond has been in great shape these last few weeks and the breezes have been terrific. Don Clifford & Pete Cole have their new boats up & running, both boats performing well. Lots of very close racing. Rod also has a new boat about to be launched in the next couple of weeks so things are happening up hear in TenRater Heaven. Will try & get down to Terrigal soon, look forward to calling "Buoy Room" on you........regards Funkster

First and foremost Funkster you will have to catch me to get bouy room or ..........would you prefer boy  Grin Grin and yes I think sailing the A class separate will be the best way and a few more may come up and compete.

Good to see the guys building new boats I think that's a great part of model yachting although I run out of time and there is nothing worse than tuning a new boat however its like light air all part of sailing looking forward to seeing you most likely at Maitland as I go to the gong to sail the A this weekend and Marbleheads next weekend very busy.

cheers .......Phil  Cheesy Cheesy

Hey stirrer what about this!!!!!!
we all know how u love to "slip inside when attempting to pass at buoys" and test the rules to the nth degree especially when coming in on port. In fact in response to multiple comments concerning the above situations we are thinking of assigning a special P4 judge, yes that's right your own personal judge, to bring some discipline to the table and help make your stay at Tuncurry that much more memorable. ha! Ha!  (only joking).
Speaking seriously for a moment. Thanks for all your help in promoting the event we really appreciate all your efforts & hard work behind the scenes. Your doing a great job in your new position. The guys & myself up here are very greatful for your committment. See u at Maitland..........regards funkster.
ps. where r the central coast boat builders????Have they retired??? Do u think we can prise them out of the woodwork?Huh?
