Think you'll find David Turton is hard at it building one.

Finders crossed we might see it at the Nats ??

Yes I thought I saw the mention of someone on the forum building one. Just couldn't recall where.

That's one big mother of a mainsail on it! I know Bantock runs small jibs on lower suits, but I didn't think he'd go that radical on the top suit....

Having lower overhangs, I suppose you could run the boat 300 grams lighter, for a shorter measured LWL, but still pick up length when heeled.

Frank, in your opinion, with a 'tender' boat, is it possible to gain too much waterline in lighter winds? My reasoning being that if the boat is going fast enough to use the length, then it just adds drag through wetted area, , does it not?

How's the P% coming along? What's the main differences from the P4?

Never though much about that actually. The trend for the last 30 years up until the NRW and Bantock has been for shorter overhangs, eg the R10-6 has no stern overhang at all and still goes downwind fast which is where long length really matters. I usually just put what is needed on the front of the boat and then balance it at the back. What you gain by trying to increase sailing length is so slight it seems to me hardly worth the effort except in a narrow range of conditions.

I think by the time your boat is heeling enough to gain sailing length you are probably getting out of the range where wetted surface matters the most anyway, but those overhangs still would be adding friction drag. Would it be adding more friction drag than you gain in length by having longer overhangs? To tell the truth I don't know but my gut feeling is upwind? Yes. Reaching and running just on hull speed? No.

The P5 compared to the P4 is similar shape but a bit more powerfull. Slightly heavier, longer overall, higher freeboard and fuller ends.

G'day Ron,

The boat for sale is my "other'" 10R. It's now sold(better let Eddie Cowell know I suppose Grin).

The current "Blade" that I sailed in Adelaide isn't going elsewhere any time soon.......

At least this time in Sydney, it will have a year of tuning behind it, unlike the 2 hours it had prior to the 2010 Nats!

Cheers,

Pat
